The EMUSE is Sellìa's striking open-air ecomuseum, a fascinating narrative journey set in the heart of the medieval village in the province of Catanzaro, created to celebrate the most authentic soul, traditions, and rich scenic and historical heritage of the Catanzaro Presila region. Nestled along a spectacular panoramic balcony offering a breathtaking view suspended between the sky and the valley, this open-air museum carefully preserves transparent display cases protecting ancient farming tools of the past—silent and touching witnesses to the hard daily labor of the people of Sellìa, forever bound to the rhythms of the land, harvesting, and the centuries-old art of olive picking. The true beating heart of this itinerary is its extraordinary gallery of mural art, a visual dialogue made up of eight imposing reproductions of Macchiaioli masterpieces—featuring masters of the caliber of Fattori, Signorini, and Lega—echoing the vibrant murals painted along the alleys of the historic center. These large painted works depict the poetry of rural life with vibrant realism, immortalizing the passion of plowing in Maremma, the toil of cart drivers, the quiet rest in the fields, and the dedication of women gathered among the olive trees, intertwining throughout the village with urban frescoes that tell the stories of yesteryear, such as popular gatherings at the fountain and industrious hands in old oil mills, offering families and travelers a pure immersion into timeless beauty where art, landscape, and peasant memory merge into one great poetic tale.
